Seven years ago, violence in Fayu, Sudan shattered Jabar’s world. At just 15, he witnessed gunfire tear through his village, flames devour homes, and chaos claim the lives of his parents. That night, everything changed. With only a small bag and the will to survive, Jabar fled into the darkness, embarking on a perilous journey across hostile terrain and treacherous borders. He set out in the hope of finding his mother’s family in Northern Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Finding Sanctuary in Unexpected Places<\/h3>\n

Although he had not yet found his mother’s family, his path led him to Borno State, a region grappling with its own challenges of religious persecution and communal violence. Yet within this complexity, Jabar discovered something extraordinary: a community that welcomed him with open arms.<\/p>\n

“The people here are kind,” he reflects, a gentle smile softening his somber expression. “They taught me that hope is possible, even in the midst of suffering.”<\/p>\n

Even though, he is a Muslim, the local church community provided food, shelter, and emotional support: lifelines for a traumatized refugee thousands of miles from home. “In Sudan, division among ethnic and religious groups allowed conflict to thrive,” Jabar explains during village gatherings. “I see the same patterns beginning to emerge here. Christians and Muslims must find common ground and stand together against violence and hate.”<\/p>\n

His message resonates deeply in a nation where interfaith tensions occasionally flare. Unity, he insists, remains Nigeria’s greatest strength against extremism and violence.<\/p>\n

Celebrating Diversity as Strength<\/h3>\n

Both Sudan and Nigeria possess incredible cultural richness. These support networks can mean the difference between despair and hope for refugees and internally displaced persons.<\/p>\n
