Nyasha Matonhodze<\/strong> was just sixteen when she took the fashion world by storm.<\/p>\n

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe<\/strong> on July 31, 1995, Nyasha\u2019s story begins with a quiet life raised by her grandmother. At age eight, she moved to London<\/strong> to reunite with her mother\u2014a bold single woman who had left Zimbabwe at eighteen to start a new life, alone.<\/p>\n

That courage runs in the family.<\/p>\n

A Walk into Destiny<\/h2>\n

In 2009, Nyasha walked into the Elite Model Management<\/strong> office in her school uniform. She joined their talent search\u2014and within days, she was walking the London runway<\/strong> at the Spring Louis Gray show.<\/p>\n

It was no fairy tale. There were no flashing lights or dramatic reveals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was always tall and skinny,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople kept saying, \u2018You should model.\u2019 But it didn\u2019t click until I watched America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Making Forbes and History<\/h2>\n

By 2012, Forbes Africa named her #1 on its list of Top 20 African Models<\/strong>, beating stars like Candice Swanepoel, Grace Bol<\/strong>, and Ajak Deng<\/strong>. She had already shot major fashion campaigns, including one for Louis Vuitton<\/strong>, styled by Karl Templer<\/strong> and photographed by fashion legend Steven Meisel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was in a Rolls Royce sitting eye-to-eye with Meisel,\u201d she told The Telegraph<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s when it hit me\u2014I was living a dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fame didn\u2019t change Nyasha. She honours her roots and carries the warmth of Zimbabwe with her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still remember bathing outside. Falling asleep in the sand. The sun. The simplicity. When I came to England, I saw how they viewed Africa. And it wasn\u2019t true.\u201d<\/p>\n
